Sandy Stannard is an architect and a Professor of Architecture at Cal Poly. Her teaching revolves around issues of ecological sensitivity; she teaches advanced design studios, building technology coursework, and advises master’s theses. Professor Stannard was the recipient of a 2015 Cal Poly Distinguished Teaching Award. She was one of the faculty advisors for Cal Poly’s 2015 Solar Decathlon entry which received third place overall in this U.S. DOE/NREL sponsored international design/build competition. Professor Stannard was a recipient of a USGBC “Green Innovation” honorable mention award for her work on an “outdoor classroom” for a local elementary school, a project intended to enhance environmental learning in an outdoor setting. As an architect, she has practiced in the Bay Area and in the Pacific Northwest, including a consultancy at the Pacific Energy Center in San Francisco. Professor Stannard studied architecture at UC Berkeley (B. Arch) and University of Washington (M. Arch).
