Carolina Barreto is the Renewable Energy Manager at Tetra Tech and is currently the Senior Clean Energy Advisor for the Powering Agriculture Initiative to assist Grand Challenge partners and 23 Energy-Ag Innovators Worldwide. Dr. Barreto has been working with Solar Drip Irrigation technologies personally implementing and fine tuning more than 20 prototypes from 2002 to 2012 in Nicaragua, Mali, Brazil, Peru and the Tohono O’odham Nation and training more than 200 farmers and engineers on solar water pumping. She’s combined her agricultural and solar energy knowledge to optimize the design of low cost solar/windrope/diesel water pumping systems for low income farmers in developing. She has worked with several clean energy start-ups including a rural Solar Drip Irrigation entrepreneurs in Peru, Afriq Power in Mali and Suni Solar in Nicaragua. Dr. Barreto has a Doctorate in Renewable Energy, Masters in Solar Energy Engineering from University of Massachusetts Lowell and an undergraduate in Agricultural Engineering.
