Global Validation of REST2 Incorporated Into an Operational DNI and GHI Irradiance Model
Model performance of the REST2 clear-sky irradiance model will be validated at 124 locations by comparing publicly available, quality-checked, DNI and GHI measurements with the REST2-based DNI and GHI predictions. Comparison statistics such as RMSE, MBE, and MAE will be generated and used to assess model performance.
Diagnosing Model Errors in Simulation of Solar Radiation on Inclined Surfaces
Our results indicate the isotropic model developed by Liu and Jordan has the highest accuracy when diffuse radiation is perfectly isotropic. The use of empirical coefficients in anisotropic models may lead to significantly different uncertainties in the simulation of POA irradiance. More accurate surface albedo data can reduce the uncertainty of POA irradiance.
